of red roses and lots of love

Valentine's Day is just around the corner but yet again, I don't have anything to look forward to.

There won't be any red roses secretly presented to me when the clock strikes midnight. There won't be a limousine waiting for me out front to take me to the planned location. There won't be a football field with a big heart made of red roses saying, "Will you be my Valentine?". There won't be any love letters in my mailbox. My cellphone won't be vibrating off the table due to unending calls. They will be nothing to look forward to, whatsoever.

I'm not saying I'm fine with it. I just am used to it.

This may be a real shocker but I have never had a Valentine before. I have had relationships before but the majority of them either end before Valentine's Day or after it. That's the way it has been for the past four years and I never minded it. Because in replacement, I celebrated it with my girlfriends. As it is a day to celebrate the beauty of love and all that it means - a day it can be expressed and shouted out at the top of one's lungs.

But I suppose the fun you have celebrating it with your girlfriends is nothing compared to that of having a special someone to share it with. Of course it's not. But what else is there to do when what you hope for doesn't happen? You embrace what does.

After all, Valentine's Day is just like any special occasion. Just like a birthday or an anniversary. People like to get caught up in it, people like to make the most out of it. It's amazing, neurotic, unpredictable, blissful, unbelievable, exciting, inescapable...and whatnot. It's to celebrate all things, love.

It might be too soon to conclude what hasn't happened, but whatever it may be, I'm not minding it.

Even if I don't have a Valentine, there's always at least someone to share such a wonderful day with.
