My only rational exception

As of late, I've been a real glum - most of the time, that is. The only reason for that smile creeping on my face is because of either Prissy or my impossible sister. They are the one's whom have been constantly trying to uplift my spirits. Without much effort, they always succeed. Prissy is a complete nutcase, she makes me laugh hysterically just by saying something stupid or by talking at an unusual rate. As for my sister, she is everywhere I go and driving me up the wall is what she does best. Thanks to them, I'm doing slightly better.

My being in such an emotional-roller coaster state has everything to do with me watching some Korean Drama one night, Boys Over Flowers to be precise. Before I go on, you should know that I don't usually follow seasonal dramas and whatnot's, especially when it's Koren Dramas. The last time I followed every episode of a series was 90210 and that, too, I didn't follow till' the very end. But when it came to BOF, at first I was hesitant but after countless of times peeping behind the hall walls, a liking towards it started to bloom. It was only at the last few episodes I willingly sprawled on the couch, comfortably and watched it with attentive eyes until the very end - My mum and my sister didn't have to shout my name from the hall to invite me to watch it with them.

It was then I could be compared to a little weeping baby who didn't get everything done her way. What made those tears roll down my cheeks was seeing Gu Jun Pyo fulfill his promise even after four years.

It was the night before Jan Di's graduation party. Gu Jun Pyo met her out front of her home to make her a deal. While he was making the deal with her, a motorcycle passed by and the roaring sound it gives out swallowed his voice. She didn't hear what had said, at all and she didn't even bother asking. After all the useless mumbling, he just left and wished her a good night.

The day of her graduation, she had arrived late. Being late, you would think she has been spending hours on beautifying herself but really, she was just doing a good deed by helping out her best friends grandfather at the hospital. She arrived at her graduation party not clad in a shimmering stunner but her year-round uniform. When she walked it, the most popular boys in school, known as F4 whom are her friends, took turns to dance with her as they have been waiting to do so for the entire night. Each had their turn, being honored to hold such an amazing, humble girl in their hands. If only for a few moments.

Lastly, it was Gu Jun Pyo's turn but he was nowhere to be found. So all five of them exited the party. Just then, she recalled the deal he proposed to her. She couldn't figure out exactly what he had said but having known him for a very long time, she figured it would be the place they first met - the tower at the amusement park. So without hesitation, she ran all the way there. When she arrived and looked for him, he walked up from the shallow pavements. And with just a clap, the whole place lit up. He picked her up and made her stand on his feet. They danced, without fighting nor having any arguments. When the song ended, he lead her up the stairs to the tower. Step by step, she followed close. Straight ahead, a vending machine was positioned. He took out a few pennies from his pocket and put it in the machine to buy her a cup of coffee. It was the 36300 won coffee she'd bought for him on their first date here.

Shortly afterwards, they hopped onto one of the carriages of a ride similar to a Ferris Wheel. On their first date here, Jun Pyo wrote "Jun Pyo and Jan Di's first night together" at the bottom of one of the corners. When they got in, Jan Di hastily leaned against one corner of the carriage and refused to allow Jun Pyo to see what was hidden behind her. Of course he knew about it but he just wanted to to be reassured that it was still there, permanently. And when he finally got her to move, he was pleased to know that it was still there - just the way they left it. Then he said aloud, "Now you can't marry anyone else". Her facial expression was as if she had eaten a sour plum. Cringing and slightly filled with disgust. But it was obvious that it was what she wanted too.

They were finally seated beside each other, allowing silence to come between them. After approximately two minutes, he broke the silence and asked her to listen intently at what he was going to say. "Let's get married", he blurted out. All Jan Di could do was look at him, speechless and bewildered. She couldn't believe what she just heard. He was leaving for the states soon and will only be back four years from now. So, he asked her to come along and be with him. She was hesitant as she had made her mind up about her future and dreams. After giving him a rational answer, she added, "You should go". She, too, added that if he came back after four years as a real man, she'll reconsider her decision.

He gave up in trying to persuade her and made her confirm her decision, finally. Knowing they are meant for each other, he said, "You'll regret it if you ever let me go".  Being a cheeky yet smart one herself, she replied the exact same thing.

"I lost...", he gave up, yet again. "I know that if I ever lose you, I'll regret it forever".

All of a sudden, the carriage began to move and they realized that the ride was switched on. He protected her in his arms and wrapped her in a warm embrace. Being in close contact, they kissed.

Four years later....

Jun Pyo guest starred on a talk show and was featured on three of the most recognizable and popular magazines. His sister, Gu Jun Hee took her mother's place as Chairwoman of the Shinhwa Company. Yi - Jeong - one of Jun Pyo's best friends - returned from Sweden and went to see Ga- Eul first as it was the promise he made he before he left. Ji - Hoo became a doctor and Jan Di was a medical student. She volunteered in lending a helping hand at Shinhwa's Medical Volunteer Group one day. She volunteered in helping out the sick and old. Out of nowhere, a strong breeze blew where she was standing and when she looked up, she saw a helicopter. The helicopter arose from the north and was coming towards where she was. She then heard her name being called out and she recognized the voice instantly. It was Jun Pyo. He kept his promise all this while and now was fulfilling it. She saw that he came back as a real man. After reuniting with her, he got down to one knee and asked her to marry him. Tears filled her eyes and just when she was about to give him an answer, his F4 best friends came walking towards them.

Everyone was reunited and a happy ending was, yet again, possible.

If only it were so simple to keep promises.

P.S - I haven't lost my virginity to Koren Dramas. Not entirely, never.
