another world
Stay composed, Kristen.
After having anticipated to watch this intriguing fantasy of a movie for some time now, it was granted. I can finally say that I have watched Avatar. Though, it was only granted because a car wash appointment was made at Sungei Wang, and so since Pavillion was the most favorable place to watch a movie - comfy seats, clean, and spacious enough - we did. In all truths, I had dealt with the fact that it would be a very low possibility for me to watch this movie when it's still showing in the cinemas. I settled for purchasing the DVD and snuggling up to it with a bowl of microwaved popcorn and a mug of hot chocolate. Oh well, after having watched it already, I'm definitely going to buy the DVD copy and watch it when and where I want - and as much as I want.
It is worth it, after all.
As I've been confessing for these past few weeks, I'm not a fan of animation nor fantasy movies. But after having watched the Avatar trailer, I made a mental note to myself saying, "I'm so gonna watch it!". And after much convincing, I did.
Avatar did not remind me of any other movies I've seen, though some may say it reminds them of Pocahontas and Tarzan. Everything, from the lush forest landscapes to the grotesque-looking creatures, was amazing. A story of a mixture of drama, love, hope, survival, self-discovery, war, being an outcast, and betrayal all in one very intriguing and captivating movie. Every scene, whether being the one where the home tree was destroyed or when Neytiri thought Jake Sulley how to find his own Ikhran and he succeeded, is emotionally moving and breath-taking. The entire concept of Pandora was pure brilliance, from the sacred tree of souls to Eywa (the Na'vi deity) to the luminescent plants in the neon-lit forest.
All in all, this movie is mainly about hope. At least that is what I've comprehended and realized. Hope that when one circle of life ends, another begins, and goes on and on forever.
The part where Neytiri connected with her very own Ikhran and flew it off the cliff made my heart race faster. It gave me an adrenaline rush. Even more so when Jake was preparing to undergo a harrowing Na'vi ritual, which is finding his own Ikhran, knowing that the right one for him would be the one that tries to eat him. After putting up a brave front and having a very determined mind, he succeeded and managed to fly it - having it obey his voice, each time.
I wanna fly sky-high in another world, with my own Ikhran. Well, that's just a fantasy.
