too precious to be under your care

I've never been one keen enough to the whole 'book lending' situation. Why you may ask? - Because, they're too precious to me.
I wouldn't be able to endure the concern I'd be feeling, having to place them in the safe-keeping of someone else - other than me. I wouldn't be able to remain calm if by any chance, I find it's pages torn, it's cover scratched or being slightly distorted from the way I've seen it last.

Having encountered this situation before, a lesson is well learnt. Maybe it's because I'm too particular about certain circumstances, maybe selfish even. For my trust is hard to be earned but only a second to be lost.
